Cute critters from E-G…

I don’t have much to say, but here’s a bunch of cute critters to brighten your day!

Einiosaurus was a relative of Triceratops that lived in Late Cretaceous Montana. Its name means bison lizard, and can easily be recognized by the forward-pointing nose horn and two prongs on the frill.

Enchelion was a “little eel” that lived in Late Cretaceous Asia. It was one of the earliest known eels.

Fruitadens was a tiny dinosaur from Late Jurassic North America. It grew up to be not much bigger than a pound! With its beak and possible feather fluff, it probably looked a lot like a bird darting under the feet of giants like Brontosaurus.

Foreyia was a coelacanth fish that lived in Middle Triassic Switzerland. It was very different from most other coelacanths because of its interesting head and hard beak. Maybe it chomped on coral like modern parrotfish?

Gobekko was one of the first true geckos known, from Early Cretaceous Mongolia. It didn’t have the “velcro feet” its modern cousins do, but it was still very good at climbing in its forest home.

Gastonia was an armored dinosaur from Early Cretaceous North America. It was very small compared to its cousin Ankylosaurus, and had spikes on its tail instead of a club.

And the Critter of the Month is…

Say hello to Twig the Compsognathus! He lives in Jurassic Europe, and he really likes to play tag with his friends on his island home. But what happens when his friends would rather play another way?

This is a silly little story that I wrote for my kids who were learning to read. It’s been a few years, but they still love flipping through the tiny book I made out of construction paper and the printed illustrations. Enjoy!

This is Tango. He likes to sing in the trees.
The trees are tall. He will have to fly.
Tango likes to fly, but it is hard work.
This looks like a good place to sing.
This is Twig. He wants to play.
Will Tango play?
Run Tango, run!
Tango does not like this game.
Jump Tango, jump!
Twig jumps too, but not as high as Tango.
Twig is sad. Will Tango play?
Tango likes to dance. Will Twig dance?
Yes! Twig can dance! Twig and Tango dance and play.

THE END.

See you June 1st for the next Critter of the Month!

He’s the lion of the Jurassic, the fiercest, most- oh, there he goes after a butterfly!

Share your guess in the comments! He’ll be one of the critters over on the critter page. πŸ™‚
